"When Kids Lead, Hope Grows: Students Fundraise for Pancreatic Cancer Research"

At Dare to Hope, some of our most inspiring moments come from the youngest voices in our community. Recently, a group of primary school students took the lead to fundraise for pancreatic cancer research — supported by their parents and teachers, but very much driven by the kids themselves.

One of the student leaders Jemima, shared why they stepped up:

“After losing my uncle and Pa to pancreatic cancer, I felt moved to raise money for research. I teamed up with some friends who had also been touched by the disease, and together we set up a stall at our primary school. For three mornings and three afternoons we sold just under 100 scarves and raised $2,650. We were surprised by how many families wanted to support us because they too had been affected.”

What started as a simple idea grew into something remarkable. The Grade Fives and Sixes also hosted a school market as part of their annual financial education and nominated Dare to Hope as the beneficiary, raising an incredible $7,000.

These students not only made a significant contribution to pancreatic cancer research, but they also discovered the courage to care, strength in collaboration and community, and a sense of pride from giving back. Their initiative shows us what’s possible when the next generation are inspired to act.

At Dare to Hope, we love sharing stories like this. They give us hope for the future and show that even the smallest voices can make the biggest difference.
