6.3 Marathons in 5 days

267kms… the equivalent of 6.3 marathons… in just 5 days!

In July, Matt Brennan set out to run from Wangaratta to Melbourne — averaging more than 50km a day for five consecutive days. His mission? To raise funds and awareness for a cause close to his heart: pancreatic cancer.

Matt’s connection is deeply personal. He lost his grandfather to the disease and witnessed the pain it caused both him and his family.

Determined to make a difference, Matt backed himself with a challenge that was 100% self-funded and well outside his comfort zone. Having never been a distance runner, this was the ultimate test — but with grit and training, he set out on July 16.

On his final leg, Sunday July 20, Matt invited the public to join him for any distance they could along the Hurstbridge train line into Melbourne. For him, it wasn’t just about kilometres — it was about connection, solidarity, and showing that even in life’s hardest struggles, there is hope.

By the finish line, Matt had raised $4,400 for Dare to Hope, ensuring every dollar went directly to pancreatic cancer research. More than that, he inspired countless others with his determination and heart.

“I hope this can help at least one person on the day see hope with whatever struggle they are facing.”

Matt’s run is proof that fundraising doesn’t have to follow a template. Whether it’s on foot, on wheels, in the kitchen, or in your community, your passion can become a powerful way to honour loved ones and fund life-changing research.
