About Our Charity

Dare to Hope is an independently registered Australian charity. We publish our financial information here because we believe donors, partners, and the community we serve deserve to see exactly how we operate  - not buried in a government register, but clearly and plainly on our own website.

Every figure on this page is drawn from our verified financial statements for the year ended 30 June 2025.

Our Background

Founded in 2021, Dare to Hope initially operated as a fundraising initiative before becoming an independently registered charity in October 2024.

Before October 2024

Funds raised by Dare to Hope were directed into the Paul Dear Pancreatic Cancer Fund - a restricted fund held by Pancare Foundation Ltd.

Dare to Hope became an entirely independent entity in October 2024, registered as a standalone charity with the ACNC and governed by it's own Board of Management.

Funds remaining in the Paul Dear Pancreatic Cancer Fund are committed exclusively to supporting the Paul Dear Postdoctoral Fellowship - Dr Michael KC Lee's research at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

Pancare Foundation Ltd administers the payments from the Paul Dear Pancreatic Cancer Fund to Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. Donations to the Paul Dear Pancreatic Cancer Fund were generously made by Dare to Hope donors.  This is a 3 year $360,000 Fellowship which started in October 2024.

Cherie Dear, Dr Michael Lee

Since October 2024

Dare to Hope Ltd was incorporated as an independent company limited by guarantee and registered as a standalone charity with the ACNC. Cherie Dear became CEO, with a Board of Management, and continuing as custodian of Paul's legacy.

For Cherie, the mission is not abstract. Just four months after losing Paul, she lost her father Don to pancreatic cancer. Two people. One disease. The same brutal, underfunded odds.

That experience - and the community of families who have lived it - is what drives Dare to Hope forward. All funds raised from October 2024 are received, managed, and disbursed by Dare to Hope Ltd directly.

The Dare to Hope Postdoctoral Fellowship — supporting Dr Matteo Golo at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, supervised by Prof Marina Pajic — is funded and managed entirely by Dare to Hope Ltd.
